after a week try and try to fix windows 8 update/upgrade to windows 8.1, finally I'm success to do that.
the first time i try to install windows 8.1 after getting notification from windows everything is going fine, downloading, install, getting PC Ready, and then I'm stuck at 82% (Getting information). from that, the update is failed with first code error is 0x80070002.
and then I try to fix it by run windows update diagnostic tools from microsoft, but still the same result I found.
so I decide to do a little experiment with the tutor from all website to solve this problem, (Actually, most of the tutorial to fix this problem is not working for me).
here is the step I make to fix those error and update my win 8 to win 8.1.
1. I created new user profile with microsoft account (@Hotmail.com) and then give it as an administrator. (If you don't know you can follow this step)
2. I run windows update diagnostic once again. (Use default windows update diagnostic in the control panel -> troubleshouting ->under SYSTEM AND SECURITY -> Fix Problem with windows update
3. now after after "fix problem with windows update" task is open in new windows, you should run it as an administrator by click advanced in the left bottom. and the click next.
4. I found several problem and then windows fix it for me.
5. I clean the cache for windows apps store by press win + R (Open run) and then type WSReset.exe
6. and I try to run windows update again through windows apps store. but this not fix my problem, with the second code error show up 0x80070004.
7. frustrating and confused, I almost go to reset my windows 8. but I know there must be another way to fix this problem.
so I try another way with this step:
1. I use clean boot to resolve this, if you don't know how to run clean boot here is the link to learn it. but you can perform that with this step : win + R (Run) --> type msconfig --> in the general tab/click diagnostic startup --> next go to service and then check Hide all Microsoft Service --> then go to startup (the task manager windows will show --> disable any startup program then closed task manager windows --> and then click ok in the system configuration window --> the windows restart window will show, click restart if you wish =D. (I suggest you should go to the link I give you to gain knowledge about clean boot and the environment inside)
2. from the clean boot environment, I try to install windows update again with same failure (error 0x80070004).
Almost give up because every step and way I got from microsoft and other website didn't resolve my problem, but I take vow in the last step I will make; if this one going to another failure I will remove my windows 8 and going back to the windows 7 or another OS perhaps.
but the last step is working, here is the last step I make:
1. I run System File Checker SFC /SCANNOW through win Command Prompt (CMD, *notes: must run it as an administrator)
2. wait untill SFC is finish the task.
3. (*notes: run CMD as administrator, and then type SFC /SCANNOW )
this how I found the problem why I can't install windows 8.1 on my devices. the sfc report there is corrupt file and can't be automatic repair. after I check the the log of SFC scan result, I found some of my driver is broken (Can't be update)
so I fix it with windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), here is how to run DISM to fix error you found: run CMD as administrator --> type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
now you have to wait for several time untill the DISM proggress is finish and give you report that all of the problem is fix.
now, you can run your update once more through apps store and see what is coming.. hehe =D
oh by the way you have to disable all of your antivirus software. after any stuff for windows 8.1 is finish in apps store, windows will guide you to the next step. just leave your device on, and windows will take care the rest untill you new system is ready to go.
anyway, just for additional: Upgrade windows 8 to 8.1 with apps store doesn't make you lose all of your install program even just one. enjoy the new ModernUI from windows 8.1..
I take a week to resolve this problem, I hope you guys take less then an our.. hehe Good luck..!!!
leave a comment if you going into trouble, or I have make mistake with this tutorial.
